WE WISH to reply to the letter from S Hyde about the Midland Hotel in a letter published in the Citizen last week.
We first saw the Midland on the internet. It attracted us to the area for the first time as tourists and now we are residents.
The Midland Hotel is an outstanding building with enormous potential for drawing new visitors and income to the area if it is sympathetically restored.
As art deco enthusiasts we have travelled all over the country to see examples of this type of architecture and even in its present state the Midland is breathtaking.
S Hyde blames nostalgia for keeping the Midland standing. In that case, thank heavens for nostalgia - because without it some of our greatest buildings may have been destroyed.
