In a year when many of the nation's athletes excelled during the 2004 Athens Olympics and Paralympics, England's Cricket Team performed exceptionally well on the One-Day and Test Match stage, and the County's teams continue to perform at national level, who has caught your eye in the world of sport?

Who is in the running for this year's Cumbria Sports Personality of the Year Award to take over from last year's winner, Gary Lockerbie, the Penrith golfer?

Nominations are now being sought for this prestigious Award, along with the seven other categories that provide opportunities to recognise various levels of successful sport performances, in addition to the support services of administration and coaching.

The introduction last year of a new Award, "Active Sports Coach of the Year", which is restricted to those coaches who work on the Sport England/Cumbria Sports Partnership funded programme, proved to be very successful, and is included again this year.

The Awards will be presented on Friday, 3 December 2004 at the Annual Presentation Dinner at the Low Wood Hotel, Windermere.

Eddie Edge, Partnership Manager with Cumbria Sport, the organisation responsible for the administration of the Awards explained "The support provided by the media, local authorities and some major commercial organizations, continue to make these the premier awards in the county. They acknowledge the quality of our major sports performers and our emerging talent, as well as recognising the very important part played by administrators and coaches in Cumbria. We are grateful to all our sponsors in supporting these Awards"
