A BUSINESS which has blossomed in Kirkby Lonsdale is expanding into Kendal's newest retail development.
The husband-and-wife team behind lifestyle shop La Maison, which is based in Kirkby Lonsdale's Main Street, are opening a second store at Wainwright's Yard where they are taking a two-storey unit.
The outlet is part of the shopping and homes development that is being created in the heart of Kendal alongside a new Booths supermarket.
Mark Abbotson, who runs the business with his wife Ann, said they hoped to open in Kendal next month and to employ three or four people.
Described as a lifestyle emporium, La Maison sells "inspirational and trend-setting" ideas for the home, including occasional furniture, candles, basketware, and lighting, as well as gifts.
Mr and Mrs Abbotson, who live at Old Town, said they believed that retailing was going to become more important in Kendal.
"We like the idea of Wainwright's Yard with the new Booths as the anchor store," said Mr Abbotson.
The 600sq feet outlet, which is next to The Westmorland Gazette reception, is bigger than the couple's Kirkby Lonsdale shop.
Mr Abbotson promised there would be "no expense spared" on the interior, which would include hardwood floors, modern lighting, and a hardwood and stainless steel staircase.
