NEXT Wednesday, October 20, the former Northumbria University campus in Carlisle will officially be taken over by the University of Central Lancashire, based in Preston.
The university aims to electrify the campus by more than doubling the number of students by 2009.
It is the latest strengthening of the North-South spine of higher education that is boosting choice for students in South Lakeland and all over Cumbria. It may also inch the county closer to a University of Cumbria'.
