SO this is what happens when you upset Lancaster City!

Moor Green's refusal to allow the kick off time to be switched because of a clash with the England v Wales international angered the Dolly Blues.

And their fury was only enhanced when only half the usual Giant Axe crowd dragged themselves away from the television set.

The Birmingham outfit then decided to kick anyone wearing a blue shirt so by this time City were well and truly fed up - and the best way to gain revenge was to dish out a hammering.

So Green set off back down the M6 with their tails firmly between their legs after a 3-1 beating from a City side who were awesome at times.

City started the game well despite Green's roughhouse tactics and had all the early play with Danny Stone and Ryan Elderton going close before Jamie Speare saved well from Ben Petty.

So it came as no surprise when City went in front. Speare's long kick was flicked on by Peter Thomson for Steve Jones to sidestep his marker and blast home from 20-yards.

There was bad news for City just before the break when the impressive Ian Dawes was cynically kicked out of the game by Green's Phil Trainer.

Trainer had already hurt Dawes with a late lunge and his all-out assault in front of the assistant referee really should have been punished with more than the abuse meted out by City players.

Green came out better after the break and grabbed an equaliser when Matt Hall's speculative 30-yarder caught the wind and drifted above, wide and beyond Speare to find the net.

City's dismay lasted less than 30 second, though, as Martin Clark danced down the right straight from the restart and crossed for Jones to spectacularly head home.

It was a fine goal and at 2-1 the game was all but over.

Lancaster were all over Green and Jones could have had a hat-trick but missed from 10-yards before Thomson held off two defenders on a run before slam-ming home number three.

There was another injury blow for City as they chased a fourth goal when Stone ran slap bang into the towering frame of Thomson as they tried to kick the same ball.

Stone limped away in agony and, along with Dawes, is rated doubtful for Saturday's FA Cup tie with Kings Lynn.

"We were tremendous, espec-ially in the first half," smiled City boss Phil Wilson. "They were a big physical side and hard to beat so I am very pleased with the result and the performance.

"It's a shame we have lost two lads injured but there were plus points with Jones and Thomson.

"They have not played much football this season but you wouldn't have guessed."
