PLANS for the future of Eden's public toilets are back on the agenda after disgruntled councillors decided to call for a rethink.

Eden District Council is set to meet on October 21 to discuss the fate of the district's loos after a group of five councillors asked the council to take another look at the issue.

As the contentious plans stand, four toilets in Appleby, Kirkby Stephen, Glenridding and Penrith are ear-marked for closure with another 11 conveniences facing their final flush if local organistations are unwilling to take them over.

Press officer for EDC Gavin Capstick told the Messenger: "A special meeting to discuss the ongoing toilet situation has been called after a group of councillors approached the full council. They want the current plans for closure to be put on hold while other options are investigated."

The suggested changes to the plans will be available from today(Wednesday) on the EDC website.
