If you fancy yourself as a connoisseur of fine ale and like to try the best of real beer wherever you go, then this week's bar-propping Prizetime could be just for you.
After the sell-out success of 2003's Westmorland Beer Festival, locals are preparing for this year's event that promises to offer even more beers from all over Britain.
The Westmorland Branch of the Campaign for Real Ale will be holding the 11th Westmorland Beer Festival at Kendal Town Hall from October 26-30.
As the Town Hall celebrates the best of British beer there will be an extensive selection of ales from local breweries including a special Festival Beer. This year the emphasis is on making available ales which have never before graced the Westmorland Beer Festival bar.
The finale of the Festival on Saturday, October 30, will include the new Riverside Jazz Band who will provide plenty of foot-stomping traditional jazz to make the evening go with a swing.
Those attending the festival will also be able to take away a commemorative glass. For those who are left wanting more there will be the opportunity to join The Campaign For Real Ale and enjoy special membership offers at the Festival and elsewhere.
On Tuesday and Wednesday the festival is open from 5pm to 11pm but it will be open all day from noon to 11pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
To mark the forthcoming festival I have three newly-published Good Beer Guide 2005 books to give away.
