JIM Harvey's Morecambe finally came out of their Christie Park shells to put in a display to cheer their fans in A 2-1 win over York City.
The Shrimps turned in a determined, highly professional show in front of the television cameras to frustrate a York side, who are better than their league position would suggest, and even missed a penalty which would not have flattered them.
In difficult conditions with a swirling wind and showers, the game started quite brightly with both teams passing and moving well.
And with that tone set it appeared a goal would soon arrive but when it did there was not a lot in the way of skill, certainly in the creation.
York goalkeeper David Stockdale rolled the ball out to David Pearson who then gave it away to Wayne Curtis. He put Michael Twiss clear and that was 1-0. Twiss will not miss gifts like that and the York defence was struggling to keep tabs on him.
But the Minstermen were still a danger going forward and Paul Groves was sensationally denied an equaliser by Adam Sollitt's remarkable point blank save, while Darren Dunning also looked on in shock when Sollitt arched his back to turn a wicked, dipping 30-yard shot onto the crossbar.
Those two saves were crucial to Morecambe as they survived the City onslaught and after that Terry McFlynn thought he had made it 2-0 until Lee Nogan, underneath his crossbar, headed the danger away.
The Shrimps started the second period well with David Perkins almost scoring a freak goal as his cross caught the wind and caught Stockdale out the keeper only just managing to regain his position to claim on the line.
And then Chris Blackburn saw a header scrambled off the line by Davey Merris, while substitute Danny Carlton was similarly denied with his first touch of the game.
Morecambe then wasted a great chance to go 2-0 up when Keiran Walmsley saw his penalty saved after City player-boss Chris Brass tripped Carlton.
A second goal was all Morecambe deserved and it came with three minutes to go as Carlton fed Garry Thompson and he shot home.
That should have been game over but York sub Levant Yalcin pulled one back in stoppage time in style.
He cut in from the left and unleashed a rocket from 25-yards. Sollitt moved but surely didn't see the ball as it fizzed into the net sparking a frantic last 90 seconds but Morecambe held firm.
Morecambe: Sollitt, Blackburn, Bentley, Swan (Stringfellow 89), Perkins, Heard, Hunter, McFlynn (Thompson 64), Walmsley, Curtis (Carlton 70), Twiss. Unused subs: Rogan, Robinson.
