CROSS COUNTRY: The new Cumbria Cross-Country Series started at Cockermouth on Saturday - series of four low-key cross-country races aimed at encouraging new runners to try cross-country, while providing serious racers with an opportunity to fine-tune their training and racing skills.

Medals are to be awarded at the end of the series with the best three runs from four counting. All runners finishing the series will receive a medal.

Racing starts at noon with the senior race at 1.30pm. The entry fee is £1 and the next venue in the series will be Keswick (Fitz Park) on November 13, with the other locations to be confirmed.
