New head for Lakes School A NEW head has been appointed for the Lakes School, Troutbeck Bridge, and will take over in January.
Dr David Selby has been deputy head of technology college Joseph Rowntree School, in York, since 1996.
Chairman of governors at the Lakes School, Steve Thomas, said he was the "outstanding candidate" who was appointed unanimously.
"Dr Selby is a natural leader but also an extremely good listener. He knows what is required to make the school what it can be and what it should be.
"He is a very clear thinker who speaks plain English, rather than educational jargon. I expect the school to be somewhere very exciting in a few years' time," he added.
Dr Selby is married with four sons and one daughter. Hr has a doctorate from Oxford University, which involved analysing the inside of atoms.
He said: "The school has had some difficult times over the last few years but is growing out of those and it's a place of massive potential - there's a good staff team and some smashing children."
