KENDAL library could be the next place to embrace Sunday opening if the powers that be can find enough people prepared to staff it.
The plan is to open up the Stricklandgate premises to the public on the Sabbath between noon and 4pm.
However, there are no plans for the current members of staff to work on Sundays.
"We won't expect them to unless they volunteer," said library services spokeswoman Julie Story. There have already been around 30 applicants for the positions of Sunday library supervisor or Sunday library assistant.
"We had an inspection by the Audit Commission and they said they thought it would be a good idea if we were to improve our service by offering wider opening hours," said Ms Story.
