PHIL Wilson's Lancaster City battlers made it two games unbeaten with a hard fought 0-0 draw at Redditch United on Saturday.

The Dolly Blues made the long trip to Worcestershire buoyed by their draw with Altrincham in midweek and they showed even more resilience to return north with a point.

The opening stages were evenly balanced with neither side looking like breaking the other down.

But City looked dangerous on the break with Neil Prince and Ryan Zico Black causing the United defence moments of panic.

Redditch were causing the odd moment of consternation in the City defence but Wilson's men held firm and never looked in real danger of conceding.

Steve Jones saw an effort fly just off target following good work from the livewire Black, while a Prince header also went close.

Redditch had two penalty appeals waved away, but Black could have won the match for City in the closing stages but his close range header went the wrong side of the post.

Lancaster more than deserved their point and goalkeeper Ryan Yeomans, in the side in place of Jamie Speare, had little to do in his first outing of the season.

Meanwhile, City boss Wilson gets the chance to revisit the scene of some of his finest success after the draw for the new Carthium Cup.

The Dolly Blues face a trip to Stalybridge on November 1 and Wilson has good memories of his time at Bower Fold.

He took unfancied Bridge into the Conference while with the club.

If City beat Stalybridge they will host either Harrogate Town or Bradford Park Avenue in round two with the Conference big guns not competing until round three.

City: Yeomans, Clark, Scott, Sparrow, Murphy, Stone, Bauress, Beech, Jones, Black, Prince.
