BOY racers had a muddy good day out as they got together for the last time this season at the weekend with their lawnmowers all revved up and ready to go.
Members of the North West Lawnmower Racing Association held their final championship meeting at Kirkham, near Blackpool.
Torrential rain over the weekend made for heavy going as shown by the picture of local man Andy Little, right.
The Carnforth lawnmower king went into the two-race programme in pole position in his championship class one point ahead of his main rival Dave Smith of Leyand.
But the awful conditions got the better of his machine in race one.
The rough track took its toll and caused a broken drive chain which meant a retirement for Andy and the championship win for Smith.
Andy got his machine repaired and back on the track for the later race. But despite a class win he was unable to make up for the failure of the day before.
A number of novice drivers, including one from Morecambe, joined the event at the weekend and competed on borrowed machines. Several say they will be putting in the hours in workshops and garages over the winter preparing for next season.
The season finale is the annual six-hour endurance race at Little Morton, Nottinghamshire, on October 16.
