FOOTBALL: Two late goals brought Appleby United a welcome 3-1 win in a match that looked like heading for a draw.
At home to Keswick, in Division One of the Westmorland League, Appleby took and early lead when a quickly taken free-kick by man-of-the-match Steve Warton found John Coward.
His well-flighted cross was headed home by David Nugent.
Keswick quickly equalised from Collin's cross to Gaskell and there was no further score until sub Paul Kinnear came on and rounded the Keswick keeper following a nice one-two with Tony Johnson.
Johnson then wrapped the game up at the depth when he was left unmarked in the box to slip the ball wide of the keeper.
Appleby's second win from five games played so far this season has moved them up to seventh place in Division One.
Kendal County's away match at Ambleside was called off because of a waterlogged pitch, which was enough to let Kendal Town Reserves go top on goal difference thanks to a 0-0 draw at Coniston.
Appleby Reserves had no game at the weekend.
