n Sir, We have both digital and analogue TV at the moment. In some ways digital is a backward step. Quality is excellent when it works, but we lost it several times during recent bad weather.
Digital's most serious flaw is that you can only receive one channel at once. Without analogue, gone are the days when you can record BBC1 while watching ITV; and Dad can't watch the gardening on one telly while Mum watches the football on another.
Households should prepare for increased friction as parents and children do battle when their programmes coincide.
Analogue should not be switched off until the digital receivers are multi-tuner like current TV and VCR sets, and more resistant to atmospheric interference.
