KENDAL Town's up and down form this week, when coupled by the red card for Lee Ashcroft, is giving manager Tony Hesketh some cause for concern.

"At the moment I am not entirely convinced we have got our best players on the pitch and it will continue to be trial and error until we get the solution," he said.

"I didn't go to Spalding as I am still recuperating from illness, but I am told we made a poor start and never recovered. The dismissal of Lee Ashcroft for an alleged head butt made things worse and he is likely to get a three-match ban, not the five that some people have suggested.

"Against Rossendale David Foster gave us a fresh dimension with his speed and eye for goal, but we looked jittery at the back and I knew we needed to score three or four goals to be safe.

"Rossendale played with two wide men giving them four up front, but it weakened the midfield and Mercer and McKenna exploited it with a lot of accurate deep passes through the centre, a tactic which we shall continue to use.

"With luck we could have doubled the score, but Prescot Cables will be a different proposition in the FA Cup tomorrow. They are a strong side and are going well in the UniBond Premier Division and I think it fair to say we go into the match as second favourites.

"On Tuesday we travel to Chorley in the league and, interestingly we will be fielding right-back Lee Pennington who has been on loan to them for their last two matches to get himself match fit.

"Paul Rigby, who has held the position since the start of the season, did not seem himself on Tuesday and he also picked up a hamstring injury which has ruled him out."
