Netherfield and Kendal captains, Tommy Prime and Dave Fallow sign off for the season.

DAVE: Time to reflect on the 2004 season and what it has meant for the Shap Road lads.

After a disappointing end to last season on and off the field we had to recruit and blood young players and this happened throughout our senior teams this year.

After a poor start all three teams pulled things round to climb up the table and gain respectable finishing positions, with a number of young players achieving huge success - Oliver Killiner and Chris Miller possibly having the biggest impact.

The First XI managed to win the Thwaites 20=20 Cup and will now represent the Northern League against the Ribblesdale and Central Lancashire League champions at Great Harwood on Septemer 26. Well done guys!

It's dangerous to single out individuals in a team game. However, three in particular have contributed heavily this year at KCC.

Terry Hunte achieved his 1000 league runs in the last game for an outstanding effort; Kabir Khan had his best year for the club, making over 700 league runs and taking 65 league wickets to show he is the best all-round pro in the league.

And last, but by no means least, Paul Dowker notched up over 500 league runs in the Seconds and just missed out on the club's record which I'd have put money on him getting but for the rained-off last match.

There were other feats to admire, too. The Seconds reached the County Cup final, which has now been held over in true Charity Shield fashion.

Our juniors had an outstanding season finishing first and second in the U13 cup and league.

This time last year we had lost six first-teamers - this year none and even got a new recruit for next year.

On a personal note, I won't be able to play on a Saturday until July 1 due to work commitments at Sedbergh School, but I will be playing on Sundays and will still be involved in every other way. Contrary to rumours I have not packed in.

Thanks to all at KCC who have helped, supported, organised, coached, worked on the ground, run the club and of course all who have played.

TOMMY: To be runners-up in the Northern League is not that bad I guess, but a little disappointing when it boils down to it.

What I have taken from our performances this season is that we can play very good aggressive cricket and do this week in week out.

We were beaten by a Fleetwood team who had a remarkable season and must be congratulated.

I am very proud to be the Netherfield captain and that extends to all of the players who play cricket for this club.

They all performed at vital times during the season and I believe we can get better as a unit and also know that my team believes this, so that bodes well.

In any other season we probably would have been champions, but crucially we lost away to Fleetwood, giving them the belief they could beat us to the league title.

We did well in the cups and enjoyed it with Parry and Walmsley both batting particularly well along with Clarke and White.

Leg-spinner Marc Hadwin was excellent along with all the other bowlers, who all produced great individual performances when needed.

Stuart Nixon proved what hard work in the nets can achieve in his first full season so well done to him.

All in all, we have had a good season and just failed so we must put this right next year and get ourselves some silverwear. I am already looking forward to signing a new professional and planning another crack at the championship.

Hope you all have a nice winter.
