STUDENTS arriving at Lancaster University in the coming weeks will not be homeless.

Work on new accommodation blocks at the Bailrigg campus are on target - and the university says all students with residence guarantees will be accommodated.

Financially troubled construction firm Jarvis has pledged that work will be completed.

But the university has contingency plans in place, with existing accommodation kept vacant for students, should it be needed.

On September 1 Jarvis announced that it had agreed heads of terms' for the sale of its University Partnerships Programme business to Barclays and 3i who are backing the project.

The construction phase is part of a £120million 38-year accommodation deal which allows the university to replace 2,000 old rooms and adds 2,090 to the stock of rooms allowing for expansion. On completion, 1,600 new student rooms will be available.
