TWO of the original Star Wars film characters are coming to Morecambe just before they head off for the bright lights of Hollywood and the world premiere of the last film in the famous sci-fi series.

Dave Prowse and Kenny Baker, who play Darth Vader and R2D2 respectively, are to make a special appearance at the resort's first Sci-Fi memorabilia and collectors toy fair.

Organiser Ray Richardson, of Ennerdale Road, Morecambe, is no stranger to organising huge toy fairs and recalls a very young Prince William buying an Action Man figure off him when he held a fair at Royal Ascot.

And on October 3 he will oversee the setting up of more than 100 stalls at the Winter Gardens Theatre, where people will sell off old toys.

Enthusiasts are even travelling from America for the event and Ray says there will be some extremely rare items for sale.

"There are some very desirable and collectable items because of the new films and DVDs. Some of the items people may wish to buy for investment," he told the Citizen But he says the idea of bringing a toy stall to Morecambe was not his.

"It was Dave Prowse's idea because he said he had never been up North and so I thought I had better grab him for the event before he gets too busy," says Ray.

"It costs a lot of money to put on an event on like this but it did not take me long to decide whether to do one or not because I wanted to give the people of Morecambe the chance to see the real R2D2 and Darth Vader characters before their workload becomes immense when the new film comes out."
