A MAN was temporarily deafened when a firework rocket was fired at him in Rydal Road, Ambleside, on Tuesday.
A couple were walking beside the road when the driver of a silver Volvo stopped and aimed the firework at the pair. The rocket exploded by the man with enough force to temporarily deafen him and scorch his jacket.
Police spokesman Mike Head said: "Fireworks need to be handled carefully. Throwing them at people is extremely dangerous."
And Trevor Hinxman, chairman of the Windermere Campaign for Firework Control, called for tighter legislation over their sale after hearing about the incident Police are still appealing for information on the incident. The car possibly had a 52' in the registration.
