KENDAL'S Retail Forum has approved, in principle, the idea of Christmas market in the town.
It may be held at the new Booths store, which is due to open in November, and then if successful the market may be located along Stricklandgate next year.
The idea came about after a visit to Kendal's German twin town Rinteln, which hosts a similar market based on crafts.
Coun Tony Rothwell said: "I was on the trip to Germany and saw how successful they were for each little town and village. A local Christmas market will be very beneficial to this town and I hope we all support it."
