MORECAMBE'S lifeboat drew big crowds as it raced into action twice within minutes on a sweltering Sunday.

Rescuers were called into action just after 5pm after receiving reports of a jet-skier in diffi-culties.

They launched the inshore boat and hovercraft to rescue the un-named man with scores of day-trippers, enjoying the sun and seaside, looking on.

But within moments of getting back to shore, rescuers raced into the bay again after an emergency call claimed four children had been swept out to sea.

It turned out to be a false alarm as they found four teenagers on the beach.

"Someone made an emergency call with the best intentions," says a spokesman. "But when our team responded they found some lads on the shore.

"The other incident involved a jet-skier who had got into difficulties and we would urge people to take extra care when using these machines. They are more powerful than they first appear ."
