THE Michelmas Singers are to make a welcome return to St Johns Church in Lancaster as part of its popular programme of lunchtime concerts.
Based in Cleveland, they specialise in early sacred and secular choral music from Monteverdi's Vespers to music from Purcell, Faure and Gibbons.
Directed by Harold Reay, they usually perform in their native North East but have also done several European tours including Poland, where they supported Chris Rea, Italy and France.
The Michelmas Singers will be at St John's, in Chapel Street, on September 12, when they will be accompanied by harpischord player David Bolton, performing madrigals, songs, words and music from the Court of Queen Elizabeth I.
The concert is being organised by local promoter Nick Reay and presented in connection with the Heritage Weekend events programme. with tickets priced at £4. All proceeds raised will go to the choir's costs and the upkeep of the church. Call Nick Reay on 07960-980362 for more information.
