MORECAMBE put their home troubles behind them to come away with a hard-earned point from Scarborough.

And it could easily have been all three after the Shrimps saw off early pressure to take the lead through Keiran Walmsley.

Scott Kerr fired high and wide from distance for Scarborough and Keith Gilroy also placed his shot over Adam Sollitt's crossbar before Morecambe mounted an attack.

It took 11 minutes for them to get a shot at the home goal when Wayne Curtis cut in from the left.

And they came even closer to scoring as Curtis turned provider, crossing from the left to where Michael Twiss got above keeper Leigh Walker but sent a header over the bar under intense pressure.

The Shrimps had loud appeals for a penalty turned away when a Walmsley cross was blocked by the hand of Neil Redfearn on the half hour - but referee Amy Rayner awarded a free kick on the edge of the area.

Scarborough were now being dominated, and on 33 minutes Twiss raced down the left and cut a superb ball back to Walmsley to strike his shot beyond Walker.

Morecambe also started the second half in charge and created chances for Walmsley, Garry Hunter and skipper Jim Bentley to extand the lead.

But instead it was Scarborough who struck on 59 minutes through substitute Chris Senior.

Michael Howard was adjudged to have brought down Tyrone Thomp-son on the edge of the area and Redfearn's fierce free kick was only parried by Sollitt providing an easy finish for Senior.

Twiss forced an excellent save out of Walker with a shot from a tight angle but it was the home side who pressed for a winner with Robert Gill testing Sollitt and Redfearn dragging his shot wide.

Jim Harvey introduced Danny Carlton to liven up his front line and he saw his first shot on 74 minutes scrambled away.

But Senior came closest to winning the game when his 85th minute shor beat Sollitt but hit the bar and flew away to safety.
