THE Salvation Army in Kendal is asking local people to spare an hour to transform the life of someone affected by homelessness, drug and alcohol addiction, loneliness or despair.
The organisation is asking people to help to deliver and distribute envelopes to help raise the £3 million needed to support The Salvation Army's social work.
Members and volunteers across the UK will launch this year's annual appeal, which runs from September 18 until October 3. The organisation relies on the donations from the general public to fund its social services work.
The Salvation Army in Kendal runs luncheon clubs on Mondays and Thursdays; parents and toddlers on Friday mornings; and a youth work programme on Fridays and Sundays, as well as holding worship meetings on Sundays at 10.30am and 6.30pm.
As a church and registered charity, The Salvation Army demonstrates its Christian principles through its church activities and social work, and is now the largest and most diverse provider of social welfare in the world.
The new officer in Kendal, Lieutenant John Charlton, would like to hear from anyone who might be able to offer help with the appeal or anyone who would like to find out more about the work of The Salvation Army.
He can be contacted on 01539-733760.
Donations can also be made to the appeal by visiting The Salvation Army website at www.salvationarmy.
