Carvetii Utd 5 1 Grasmere.

Following a disappointing campaign last time Carvetii Utd have used the summer break to reorganise the club. The reserve team has been reintroduced with Rory Robinson and Malcolm Metcalfe brought in to run the two sides and some excellent young players have been added to the squad. Carvetii have gone unbeaten in pre-season games and went into their opening match high on confidence. Carvetii quickly settled down and began to the pass the ball sharply and, as the game progressed, talented striker Dan Robinson was finding more and more space for Carvetii and his close control and pace was a constant problem for the Grasmere defence. Robinson opened the scoring after 25 minutes with an unstoppable left foot drive into the roof of the net.

Robinson continued to torment his markers, just before the break his mazy dribble into the box produced a crude challenge from a defender and Gavin Capstick scored from the penalty spot.

Grasmere pulled a goal back at close range but this stung Carvetii into action and, within minutes, they restored their two goal lead through Bod Smith. Ali Keetley then scored from a corner and Robinson added a fifth, sprinting through from his own half, rounding the keeper, and stroking the ball home to complete a Man-of-the-Match display.

Carvetii beat Appleby Reserves 4-0 on Saturday withDan Robinson, who has had trials at Newcastle and Carlisle, scoring a hat-trick.
