POLICE are appealing for information about a fatal road accident on Friday, August 27, which left the southbound carriageway of the motorway shut off for three hours.
A spokesman for Cumbria Police said that a pedestrian had collided with a number of motor vehicles and recieved fatal injuries on the southbound carriageway of the motorway adjacent to Killington Service Area at about 9.50pm.
He said that the first vehicle to hit the pedestrian was a Ford Transit van driven by a man from Glasgow. Following initial enquiries it appeared that a further five vehicles were also involved to varying degrees.
Inspector Paul Coulson of Cumbria Police confirmed that the sex and identity of the pesdestrian were still unknown and that there were no suspicious circumstances. He said that it was too early to say whether anybody would be charged in connection with the incident.
Anyone with information should contact PC Bell 185 of Kendal Mobile Support Group on 01768 891 999.
