SHEEPDOGS bounded through the sun-soaked fields of Barbon on Saturday for the village's annual sheep show and trails.
"We were very lucky, it was absolutly glorious weather and a fantastic show," reported show secretary Barbara Lewis. "We had about 119 entries in the sheep classes which is pretty good, 56 in the sticks and crooks and the sheep dog trials went very well with a flock of spirited Swaledale ewes we'd just bought down from the fells.
"There are a lot of local people that show here who don't go anywhere else. It's purely a good day out, seeing all your friends. It's nice to see everything back to normal after foot-and-mouth."
The sheep show, in particular, was very well attended. David and Hazel Watson, of Middleton, won the Harrison-Beck Perpetual Cup for the Champion Rough Fell; John Pedley, of Barbon, won the Banks Feed Cup for Champion Mule; and P.D. & P.J. Ellis, of New Hutton, won the O.S. Benson Cup for Champion Leicester.
The stick show was again dominated by Bob Cannon, who won the Perpetual Rose Bowl for overall Best Exhibit of the show and the Rennie Cup for the best Group of 3 Sticks.
The Children's Sports were held in the afternoon, which were very well supported with children of all ages joining in, making the event both successful and great fun for all.
