THE summer season is race season, which is never really out of fashion. Race fashion is also in vogue virtually and in reality - and the people seeing and being seen are shod in a wonderful variety of gear. The Web offers surfers a delightful array of sites to inform, advise and entertain you about the world of horse racing and fashion. Stop running, put your feet up and follow where the Web leads you.
What's in vogue: Visit www.britishhorseracing.com/fashion for a wonderfully colourful site advising ladies and gents on what's in vogue this year for racing fashion. Whether it's ladies' day or evening events, they can advise you on what's at stake in racing fashion.
The site also provides the latest news on horse racing events and provides online ticket sales.
World of racing: At www.theracingworld.co.uk/Racing_Fashion.shtml, the world of racing and the world of fashion are inseparable and the big names in fashion, Vogue, Burberry and Tiffany, are all linked in on this site. The links may be colourful, but the site design is a bit plain. Black text on a white background doesn't seem to quite live up to one's expectations. The odds are against this one being a favourite, although some may choose it.
Focus on fashion: Forget people for the moment, what about the horses? At www.animalforum.com, in the Horse section, you can find out about horse dental care, grooming and general etiquette. But, to get right to the heart of the matter, go to www.theracingforum.co.uk. In the Fashion forum section, you can get right into the track-side talk about fashion. There are no holds barred here the site's aim is to foster discussion on racing topics and they definitely succeed (some of the language in the chat forums was a bit rough around the edges).
Linking into sites: At www.equisearch.com/columnists/s_drnec/eqchaps21828/ you can read what the columnist has to say about chap fashion. This site is a length ahead of many for links. They have lifestyle, horse humour and how to cope with your horse's death sections as well.
Frocks cause a flutter: At www.galwaynow.com/fashion/attheraces.html racing and racy are neck and neck. They captured the fashion at Galway Races Ladies Day. Judging by the frocks and fancy outfits, heads were turning on and off the track.
Make a date: Our own www.cartmel-steeplechases.co.uk will tell you what you need to know to get on track for their events. Ignore the headline banner that says next event May, 2004,' as they do list the dates for the whole season.
Ahead of the game: But the site of all sites - not so pretty to look at, but content-wise quite stunning - is www.horses.co.uk. This site offers a well-stocked selection of horsey' material. A full length ahead of the other sites is its audio sound section. In WAV or AU format, you have five neighs and a gallop to listen to from your pc. This is one person's take on the world of horses, but jump in and take a look. That is what the Web is for.
