I refer to your article in the Citizen headed Cross bay walks bring train strain' (August 2).
May I assure you that on the Hest Bank to Flookburgh and Grange over Sands crossings we take the welfare of walkers returning to Hest Bank very seriously and always provide return transport where there could be overcrowding on public transport.
May I also assure you we will continue to provide return transport at a cost that is competitive and bear in mind the inconvenience of the public not being able to board a train when it is imperative for them to do so because of overcrowding.
I have noted of late that First North Western have doubled the length of most of their Sunday trains. However, there are other reasons to consider if we use the train.
Once the walkers have arrived at Carnforth, there is simply not the capacity or frequency of local bus services to get walkers back to Hest Bank.
I hope this has put your source of information and the record straight.
Alan Sledmore, Arnside.
