A DRINK driver who hurtled down the M6 hitting speeds of up to 130mph as police chased him faces jail as magistrates prepare to consider his fate.
Shaun Robert Stewart, 27, of Austwick Road, Lancaster, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving over the alcohol limit, driving not in accordance with a licence, driving with no insurance and driving with no test certificate.
Before deciding on punishment, Bryan Fell - chairman of the bench at South Lakeland Magistrates Court - asked for a pre-sentence report.
He said: "We are looking at all options, including custody."
Earlier Stewart sat impassive between security guards in the dock as details of his offences were laid out.
Prosecutor David Dunk said police officers were first alerted to Stewart's behaviour in Kendal town centre.
"He drove out of a yard with his car wheels spinning and screeching. Police tried to stop him but he sped away," he said.
Officers then followed the Ford Mondeo along the A591 and the A590 to the motorway, where Stewart accelerated to nearly twice the speed limit.
Mr Dunk said: "On several occasions he nearly went into the central reservation."
police continued the chase with blue lights flashing and Stewart swerving from lane to lane, the court heard.
Eventually the car stopped but Stewart was aggressive, kicking a police car door. Officers had to use CS spray to subdue him.
Magistrate Mr Fell asked for pre-sentence reports to be produced for September 7 and remanded Stewart in custody because the offences were committed while on bail.
An interim driving disqualification was also imposed.
