A WOMAN from Appleby scooped the title Volunteer Driver of the Year at yesterday's (Tuesday's) Cumbria Ambulance Service Awards Ceremony.
Vera Dent, who helps transport patients, was shocked to find she had won the award: "I was gobsmacked when I won, I didn't expect it at all and I'd like to thank everyone who nominated me." All award winners were chosen by colleagues for the dedication and commitment they have shown in providing first-class healthcare to the people of Cumbria. Chairman of Cumbria Ambulance Service Brian Clayton said: "While the winners are to be congratulated on their great achievements these are only the tip of the iceberg all of our staff show tremendous dedication and courage every day of their working lives." The ceremony was held at the Keswick Country House Hotel and presentations made by the Lord Lieutenant of Cumbria James Cropper.
