LANES and byways from Orton to Kendal were busy with furiously pedalling mountain bikers for a major Trailquest event, which attracted 139 cyclists from as far away as Edinburgh and Llandudno.
Based on Queen Katherine School, Kendal, the mountain bike orienteering competition covered an area as far as Shap summit and Orton.
Riders were given a map and five hours, to navigate their way around the lanes, byways and bridleways.
The aim was to visit checkpoints and accumulate points without being late back.
Winner of the men's 17-39 class was Andy Conn, from Loftus, who collected 570 out of a possible 700 points, and the winning female 17-39 was Heather Dawe, from Otley.
