"UNDERHAND" police officers came under fire at a meeting of Kirkby Lonsdale Parish Council when infuriated councillors claimed they had issued "unfair" parking tickets. Members heard how on Monday night, officers had put no parking cones in place along Fairbank, in preparation for Lunesdale Show. Coun Stephen Pepperrell claimed they had then "issued the cars that had already been parked there with fixed penalty fines". Speaking on behalf of Cumbria Police, Sergeant Paul Latham said it was not "normal police practice to creep back later and issue tickets" but added that anyone who had been parked before the cones were in place and received a ticket should contact the ticket issuing office.
