A MAN died in hospital on Monday evening after being rescued from the River Kent in Kendal.
Peter Cannon, 28, of Aysgarth Close, Kendal, was brought out of the water unconscious after getting into difficulties at Sandy Bottoms at around lunchtime on Sunday.
Cumbria police said Mr Cannon was with his partner, her children, and friends of the children, when one of them drifted into deep water while playing with inflatable toys and fell in.
After getting the child out, Mr Cannon was then unable to get out of the water himself and became submerged.
He was taken to Westmorland General Hospital in Kendal and later transferred to Furness General Hospital in Barrow.
