Police have appealed for witnesses to come forward after a two-car crash on the A6 at Bolton-le-Sands on Friday evening.
Officers are investigating the cause of the accident, which involved a Mercedes 190E saloon driven by a 30-year-old man from Bare, Morecambe, and a Fiat Punto saloon driven by a 20-year-old man from Blackburn.
The Fiat driver was trapped in his vehicle for over an hour and had to be cut free from the wreckage by the fire and rescue service. He suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Royal Lancaster Infirmary, where his condition was later described as poorly.
The driver of the Mercedes sustained two broken ankles in the collision and was also treated at Royal Lancaster Infirmary.
Anyone who saw the accident, which happened close to Detron Gate at about 10.30pm on Friday, is asked to contact the police at Lancaster on 01524-63333.
