SHOT-SHY Morecambe got a lesson in finishing from a classy Blackburn Rovers outfit at Christie Park on Friday.
Shrimps were the equal of their illustrious opponents for the first hour of the game and took the lead through a Wayne Curtis penalty on 22 minutes.
But while they made a string of chances they failed to build on the single goal advantage.
Skipper Jim Bentley, Garry Thompson, Gary Hunter and Terry McFlynn all had sight of goal but failed to beat Rovers keeper David Yeldall.
The only other Morecambe scorer was Danny Mahoney - unlucky to head the ball beyond helpless Adam Sollitt after his own foul on Matt Jansen on 39 minutes.
Rovers took time to settle down but once star man David Thompson began to buzz around in midfield and supply his front men with some ammunition to fire, the score quickly changed.
Jansen showed his Premiership class with a one-touch finish past Adam Sollitt when put free by Thompson on the hour, Ciaran Donnelly did the same five minutes later and Paul Gallagher made it look even easier as he made the final score 4-1 on 82 minutes.
MORECAMBE: Sollitt, Mahoney, Swan, Bentley, Howard, McFlynn, Perkins, Stringfellow, Hunter, Thompson, Curtis. Subs: Blackburn (18) Carlton (45), Rogan (45), Osborne (72), Gregoire (80).
