FOUR tennis aces from Lancaster Royal Grammar School have been competing in the National Schools Tennis Championship finals in Hertfordshire.
The quartet of Ben and Jack Mitchell with Richard and Dan Colebourne, pictured above, qualified for the competition as North West regional winners but found the going tough.
The team's first round was against Welsh regional winners Bassaleg and proved to be one of the best matches of the tournament lasting eight hours over two days before LRGS emerged 4-2 winners.
But that was as good as it got for the local lads as they came up against specialist tennis school Cheam the reigning champions in the next round.
Jack Mitchell played first and surprised his opponent by taking an early game, but it was not to be. All four Lancaster teenagers finished beaten but proud of their efforts.
Says Ben: "In a regional tournament the seeding would prevent us from meeting opponents of such a high standard but we all made the most of a great opportunity to develop our tennis skills against top-class players."
