THE large number of people who supported the high profile protest against possible closure of Lancaster's Greaves Road nursery last month shows how well regarded this invaluable facility really is.

There were tots from the nursery in prams or holding hands with their mums walking alongside grandmothers whose daughters had attended many years ago, proving that it is a happy and safe place well worth fighting for.

I am not anti Lancashire County Council by any means, but if the so-called public consultation it is carrying out really is a serious exercise it is obvious what the answer must be.

The county must vote for option one of the choices before it retaining the status quo.

I know that the building needs upgrading but surely it would cost even more to create the new facility which would be needed to replace it.

This has always been a well used nursery where one had had to register years in advance to be sure of a place my own granddaughter was unable to get in, for instance.

Let us hope common sense prevails and that the voices of the local people will be heard.
