VICARS and tarts will not be taking over Morecambe in September - and that's official!

The rumour that the resort's big D-Day re-enactment weekend will feature a special Vicars and Tarts' dance is way off the mark.

Organisers of the event - the centrepiece of the annual Poulton Heritage Festival - say they have been getting worrying' calls from as far away as Leicester from people concerned that the1940s celebration is heading downmarket.

But chairman Steve Saunders says there is nothing for them to worry about.

"We have had people threatening to cancel because of this story that is circulating. We have no idea how it started but we want people to know it is definitely not happening," he says.

There will be two dances over the weekend - a GI Jive disco at Trimpell Sports Club on Friday, September 10 and a Grand Ball at Morecambe Dome the following evening.

Details and tickets are from Morecambe Tourist Information Centre or Steve on 01524-400512.
