MOBILE phone users in Eden could enjoy better reception and advanced technology if Eden District Council passes plans for a raft of phone masts in the area. To combat a "coverage issue", the telecommunications giant, Vodafone, has submitted plans for five masts in the Penrith and Appleby area which will enable callers to download music and video clips and benefit from better second and third generation services including broadband internet. Jane Frapwell, electro-magnetic field adviser for Vodafone, explained the influx in applications was intended to "plug a gap" in the area. "We are trying to ensure users get the same standard of service as elsewhere in the country."
