I WRITE following the fire on the White Lund industrial estate on Tuesday.

I think it disgraceful that within the space of little more than a month there have been several such fires, with who knows what risks to the public.

I took it upon myself to phone the police, the environmental health department, the Town Hall and a few other so-called authorities, but instead of being given worthwhile information I was passed from department to department until I was right back where I started.

That is despite my genuine and unanswered concerns regarding the toxicity of the blazes and the long term consequences for the health of people in this area.

I'm sorry but this isn't good enough. The taxpayer demands better.

We want answers in two respects. One is why we have repeated blazes on nearby industrial estates and the other is a clear explanation of the health risks posed by these blazes and whether there will be any long term consequences.

As for blame, this not only lies with the businesses involved but also with departments like environmental health, who should be compelled to check and investigate each and every business that operates on these estates.

In the circumstances there are clear failings all round and no signs that the necessary lessons will be learnt.
