WINDERMERE residents who have let their gardens grow to excess are being urged to cut back their bushes and trim their trees - as they are becoming a hazard.
At a meeting of Windermere Parish Council this week, members agreed overhanging vegetation was becoming a problem in the town, obstructing the view of traffic and making life difficult for pedestrians.
Coun Richard Ogden said he had encountered problems when approaching the junction of Longtail Road and the A592. "It is really quite bad, you have to creep right out into the road," he said.
Coun Elizabeth Greasley also reported problems outside the town's library: "There are tree branches hanging right over the pavement which are a problem especially when it is wet."
As well as the approaching roads to Windermere and Bowness, other areas identified as potentially problematic include Station Road, Brantfell Road and Park Road.
Councillors will now report any problems on private land to Cumbria County Council who will issue letters to the offending residents.
