CUMBRIA'S magistrates courts service has been named among a top 12 in England and Wales which has managed to collect more that 90 per cent of court-imposed fines.
Between April 2003 and March this year the service clawed back £2.8 million of the £3 million owing.
Chief executive Simon Evans attributed the performance to chasing more defaulters by phone rather than letter and by placing a higher priority on fines enforcement.
