I READ the article about the wonderful' CCTV cameras erected at Skerton Triangle (Citizen, May 20) with some amusement.

I'm sorry but I haven't noticed any difference since the cameras went up and I think you will find that most other residents agree with me.

Property is still being damaged and cars are still being vandalised on a regular basis.

We don't have a car any longer simply because we were fed up with having wing mirrors snapped off, windscreen wipers broken or paintwork scratched. I know of two neighbours whose cars have been damaged in this way even with CCTV now working.

We still also have teenagers drinking alcohol on the street close to the chemist's shop and convenience store in full view of the cameras.

I thought it was illegal for adults to drink on the streets in the area, never mind a child, but there is no shortage of empty beer cans and broken vodka bottles to clear up virtually every day.

I have been told by one of the business owners that we have to ask permission for the cameras to be viewed. Surely, this should be done automatically whenever there is an incident or a complaint or what is the use of having cameras at all?
