CROWDS gathered in the early morning sunshine on Monday to watch what could be the last Barrow-built surface ship sail from the town's docks. The Bulwark left the BAE Systems-run shipyard for trails in the Irish Sea.
With submarines but no more surface ship orders in the BAE order book, many fear the Bulwark marks the end of Barrow ship-building.
However a multi-agency group led by Furness Enterprise is appealing to BAE and the Government to bring surface ship-building back to Barrow.
