NINE people were injured in a ten-vehicle pile up on the M6 during the early hours of May 29.
The incident happened shortly before 4am, on the northbound carriageway of the motorway near junction 39, the Shap Interchange. It involved both cars and large goods vehicles.
A spokesman from Cumbria Police said that during the collision a quantity of paint and nails was spilt onto the road and at least one of the lorries jack knifed.
This caused the northbound carriageway of the M6 to be completely shut off for just under four hours, causing tailbacks on the motorway and adjoining roads as diversions were set in place.
The motorway was opened again shortly before 8am.
Nine people were injured in the collision, three seriously. All were taken to the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle for treatment.
Cumbria Police are asking anyone who witnessed the collision to contact them on (01768) 891 999
