THE Government should cut tax to get farmers powering the nation's cars, the Country Land Business Association urged this week.
CLA North West director Douglas Chalmers said Minsters should back biofuels produced from crops of oilseed rape, wheat, sugar beet and potatoes.
"The market wants it, the farmers want it, even the Government says it wants it," he said.
"It is the energy industry of the future, but it is being strangled at birth by a level of taxation targeted at fossil fuels.
The government must act now. There seems to be an assumption that green power' is simply wind power'. The alternatives, and the potential opportunities for Britain's farmers, are far wider and greater than that."
