WELL, what a surprise, a rambling letter from Patricia England (Citizen, May 13). I wonder if there is any truth in the rumour that she intends standing for the Morecambe Bay Independents at county council elections next year.
Ms England sees herself as an Earth mother' figure with the remit to heal the ills of the district. However, her constant meddling can have serious consequences for local people.
For example, her opposition to an Aldi store on the bus depot site on Heysham Road has resulted in the site remaining derelict and the supermarket being sited on the promenade.
During her four years as a councillor for Heysham North she spent her time interfering in Poulton, taking photographs on Ryelands and attending meetings of the Accordis group on Caton Road, when there were huge problems in her own ward.
Moreover, she was a member of the West End task group which made dozens of recommendations, most of which were related to the housing stock. She knows what the problems are but she refuses to face them head on, preferring sticking plaster solutions instead.
Radical action is called for if the West End is to have a chance to improve. This may mean clearing the area of the worst housing stock, that which attracts vulnerable unsupported tenants who then make the lives of long term residents intolerable.
As for the Midland and her comments on Urban Splash, I hope she can afford a good lawyer.
Cllr Peter Robinson, Harbour ward.
