Kirkby Stephen's cricketers secured their place at the top of the Eden Valley first division with two comfortable victories at the weekend.
On Saturday, they were away to Caldbeck and set a target of 212 for the loss of seven wickets with Paul Thornborrow carrying his bat for 138. Simon Turner contributed 20 before being run out and David March got 17. Calbeck were all out for just 59 in 28 overs with the wickets shared by Thornborrow (2), Bryn Davies (3), Robert Hook (2) and Chris Scarr (2).
On Sunday, Appleby 2nds visited Kirkby and made 146 for eight in their 40 overs. Tight bowling by Phil Sinclair, man of the match with three key wickets for 21, and captain Mike Bell, three for 18, set up the win. Kirkby's reply was 147 for three with three-and-a-half overs to spare. Paul Thorn-borrow got 44, Duncan Rose 49 not out, and Colin Byrom made 21.
